Frequently Asked Questions
Is Piano Select a store?
No. Piano Select is an independent body. We don’t sell pianos – we monitor the inventory of the best piano stores in the country to find the finest available instruments for our clients, at the best prices. We only search for very specific piano models that offer the best quality and buying value at any given time. We then facilitate safe and secure transactions that offer protections for both buyers and stores alike.
Is our piano’s warranty with Piano Select, or the store our piano is sourced from?
Piano Select facilitates and oversees the transaction between the buyer and the store. All stores in our Dealer Partner Network must provide a comprehensive warranty with all pianos (new and used) according to Piano Select’s strict requirements. Warranties are the responsibility of the store, as such any warranty claims must be directed to the store itself. Piano Select is, however, always on call to support you in your communications with the store if any issues arise.
I’d like to work with Piano Select to purchase a piano – how do we get started?
Simply contact us via the website or phone us on 1300-PIANOS (that’s 1300-742-667). We’ll take the time to understand your requirements before discussing the important considerations relevant to your needs. Once we establish an appropriate budget range for your intended purchase, we will forward you an invoice for a deposit, together with a service agreement. The deposit payable for all pianos (regardless of final pricing) is $550 including GST. Our service agreement guarantees that Piano Select will source a piano for you within 21 days that meets both your requirements and our quality control standards. The service agreement also serves as your commitment to partner with Piano Select exclusively in the search for your piano over that period of time, in acknowledgement of the resources we will allocate to be of service to you. Should Piano Select establish that the available stock in our dealer partner network is limited, or does not meet our standards of quality for your specific requirements, after that 21 day period, you will have the option of a complete refund of your deposit or an extension of time in which you would like us to continue our searching and quality assurance processes.
A deposit? I thought Piano Select was a free service?
Our services are indeed free: The final price of your piano when purchased through Piano Select is identical to the store’s ticket price of the piano, should it have been purchased through the store directly. As such, our services add no additional fees to your purchase price. The same also applies for services provided through our Service Partner Network (including piano tuning, repairs/restoration, moving/storage, piano rental and insurance products). Piano Select is paid a commission on sale by the store/service provider.
What if I want to go and try out the piano?
You are certainly most welcome to. When we contact you with our findings, it may be that there is one stand-out instrument we recommend, or a choice of a couple. Either way, all stores in our Dealer Partner Network will oblige in allowing you to comprehensively try out your prospective instrument. They will also allow independent inspection of the instrument by a suitably qualified technician.
Great. I’m delighted with the piano – what next?
We forward you an invoice for the balance of payment of your piano (final price minus deposit paid). Once we receive payment, we inform the store and hold those funds in trust until the piano you purchased is safely delivered to you; only at this point will funds be released to the store. This process offers safeguards and protections for both buyer and seller.
I live in a rural/regional area – can Piano Select help me purchase a piano?
Yes, we certainly can. We will work with members of our Dealer Partner Network closest to you, in order to minimise transportation costs. We will also be able to inform you of special instruments we feel would be well worth considering outside of this immediate zone.
We are a concert venue requiring the purchase of a new concert grand – what services do you provide in assisting us with this substantial purchase?
Piano Select can arrange a comprehensive reporting and selection process for shortlisting concert grand pianos for high-end applications, including nuanced testing by both established performers and piano technicians to confirm the suitability of specific instruments to particular venues and purposes. Typically this will occur overseas at the place of manufacture prior to import. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
